An American woman who was gang-raped by five men at a hotel in April in New Delhi said that she was still not satisfied and confident about the probe being carried out by the Delhi police.

The woman, who arrived in the capital last week to give her testimony in the case, said while she loves India, the police need to do more to make women feel safe. Speaking to DNA, the victim said: "I was drugged and raped by five men. I can identify each one of them. It was emotionally very traumatising to deal with things, post the incident. I was living in another country and hence dealing with laws in India was difficult. The process of filing the case was frustrating and I don't feel confident of the way the Delhi police are dealing with the case," she said.

"The cops tell me that they are doing everything they can but I don't feel assured," she added. On the other hand, the police have claimed that the investigations were going on well and the alleged suspects have been identified.

"The accused have been identified and have been questioned as well. The police are trying to gain clinching evidence. The Delhi police have high regard for the victim who has travelled back to this country to give her testimony in the case," said Joint Commissioner of Police Dependra Pathak.

The victim also said that when the tour agency and the hotel were informed about the incident, they were shocked but disinterested, bothering more about their own image, rather than trying to help her by finding out more details about the incident.

"I don't remember writing any positive feedback regarding the agency or the tour and travel company. I know there are other victims of these men as well. I will seek justice for what happened to me during my visit here," she said.

Terming coming to India was a "lifelong dream", the victim said that she was very excited when she came to the country. "I still love the country but would want someone to come along when I come again. The problem in India lies with rape and violence which are issues that need attention. More needs to be done regarding tourists and rape laws in the country," she said.

"After the horrific December 16 gang-rape (Nirbhaya), there is still some amount of effort that needs to be taken in terms of policing," she added.

After undergoing a turmoil of emotions, she said that it was only by the end of July that she decided to take up the case and file an FIR. "My family and friends encouraged me to take up the case," she said.
