US Military claims victory in Syria's Raqqa; says it's been retaken from ISIS

The U.S. military said on Tuesday that it could only confirm that about 90 percent of the Syrian city of Raqqa had been retaken from Islamic State militants, even as the U.S.-backed forces declared victory.

The U.S. military said on Tuesday that it could only confirm that about 90 percent of the Syrian city of Raqqa had been retaken from Islamic State militants, even as the U.S.-backed forces declared victory.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias, said the fighting was over and it was clearing the city's stadium of mines and any remaining militants. (Reporting by Idrees Ali and Phil Stewart; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
