Urdu Markaz approaches political parties, finds support

Urdu Markaz, the body that conducted the Bhendi Bazaar Urdu Festival in city has found support from several political parties after BMC sealed its offices along with several others. Lately, it was also known for organising Urdu-Marathi and Urdu-Hindi sahitya forum. It also announced to have a Bhendi Bazaar Research Academy to trace the lingua franca of the locality that changes from street to street.

Sunil Prabhu, former mayor who is now a Shiv Sena MLA and inaugurated the festival, said, "I got their phone call for help. They have done good work and I have been for it. The BMC has been wanting space for educational activities. We will talk to the commissioner."

Alka Kerkar, deputy mayor who also inaugurated the festival, said, "They are doing good workm, but I haven't been able to look into the matter. I was invited for a program, and I was impressed that they are promoting languages (Urdu and Marathi). I will follow up on it."
