In yet another revelation, contents of one of the letters claimed to be seized by Pune police from those arrested for alleged Maoist links mention the Reds were taking a cue from the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir and even giving monetary packages just like the way separatists are giving it to stone-pelters to attack forces in the Valley.

The sender of the letter is 'comrade Sudha', who, according to police, is trade union activist Sudha Bharadwaj, currently under house arrest in Faridabad. The letter written in Hindi is addressed to 'comrade Prakash', which also has mentions of several persons including Gautam Navlakha, also under house arrest in Delhi.

Referring to the conviction of Delhi University professor GN Saibaba for Maoist links, Sudha in this letter has stated that due to Saibaba's conviction, the morale of the 'Urban Cadre' has hit a low.

The letter mentions, "In order to reduce the impact (of Saibaba's conviction), it is a suggestion that we should give packages to our 'Urban Cadre' and comrades working in interiors, the way separatists in Jammu and Kashmir give terrorists, their families as well as the stone-pelters."

"If the package is given to them, they will be fully devoted to our organisation and it will also make them psychologically strong in facing any legal or other battles," the letter mentions.

The fourth point in the letter mentions the name of Gautam Navlakha and one comrade Ankit for being in touch with the separatists in the valley, police said.

"Ankit and Navlakha are in touch with the separatists in Jammu and Kashmir. We need to upload the videos as well as reach out to media organisations regarding the violations of human rights in Kashmir valley by the forces. We also need to provide legal aid for the case on the use of pellet guns in the Supreme Court for which contact one Comrade Prashant," the letter reads.

The letter's content suggests that it is written before June 23, 2017, as it mentions one event organised on that day in Delhi. The sender was suggesting that the event 'Udta Loktantra' was being organised in Delhi to oppose the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for which Navlakha and Arun Ferreira, another Leftist activist under house arrest should be sent.

COMRADESPEAK

  • In the last paragraph of the letter she wrote to ‘comrade Prakash’, ‘comrade Sudha’ —  who, according to police, is Sudha Bharadwaj — writes that she is in urgent need of funds.

  • Sudha says she needs to send some research fellows from JNU and Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) in Mumbai to ‘interior’ parts.
