In a barbaric act of class room punishment, a seven-year-old Class 1 student lost his vision when a primary school teacher punched his face and nailed his eye with a fountain pen in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The incident was reported from Urmila Devi Higher Secondary School in Rahimnagar village in Shahajahanpur. Ram Singh’s son Luvkush was studying in Class 1 of the school. Infuriated over his failure to recite chapter in the class, his teacher punched him and nailed his eye with a fountain pen.

When Luvkush started bleeding profusely, the Principal and staff members rushed the student to a private eye surgeon.

But the boy did not get any relief from the pain and his eye continued to swell. He was then referred to Sitapur Eye Hospital where doctors sent him to Lucknow due to serious nature of the injury.

“The principal and the teacher continued to assure me that my son will be alright and the school will bear all his medical expenses. Eye surgeons in Lucknow told that the boy has lost the eyesight and it has to be removed to check the infection. When they told Rs 1 lakh cost for the surgery, both the Principal and Teacher ran away from the hospital without paying bill,” said Ram Singh, father of the boy.

“We are poor people and we do not have any money to go for the eye surgery of my son. I want justice for my son who has already lost one eye,” said Ram Singh

Agitated over the behavior of the Principal, Ram Singh lodged an FIR against the Principal and the erring teacher at the Roza Police Station and demanded their immediate arrest. The police have registered an FIR and making efforts to arrest the teacher and the Principal, who are on the run.
