In a shocking video that has gone viral, a man from a village near Meerut is seen thrashing is wife after a panchayat permitted him to do so, the Times of India reported.
According to the report, the incident took place on March 10, but the video became viral on Thursday following which an FIR was filed against 19 people. Of these, seven have been named and 12 unnamed. Three have been arrested so far.

According to the report, the woman had eloped with a villager, but was brought back and tried before a local panchayat that called for her thrashing.
In the video, a large crowd is also seen witnessing the event but none of those witnessing came forward to help her. The video shows her hands tied to a branch and her husband shouting at her “Ab bhaag ke dikha.” (now try and run)
Later, according to the woman’s complaint in the FIR, she was taken by a few men inside the house and molested. The woman had allegedly eloped with a village youth.
The police filed the FIR on Thursday after the video went viral and booked seven persons (named) and a dozen unnamed under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354B (Assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 147 (Statement conducting to public mischief), etc.
Of the three people arrested, one is the husband and the other is a panchayat member, the report added.
