UP: Police bust illegal cracker manufacturing unit

Police today arrested four men and seized nearly one ton of explosive materials being used for manufacturing illegal crackers during a raid in the city.

On a tip off, police officials raided Kakarmatta area in Manduadih police station and arrested Shamshad alias Guddu Khan with some explosive materials that were being used for producing illegal crackers, said Circle Officer (Bhelupur) Rajesh Srivastava.

During interrogation Shamshad revealed the name of three other persons involved in manufacturing and selling illegal crackers.

The three, who were arrested, have been identified as Kushal, Raju and Mukhtar Jamal, all residents of Varanasi, he said.

Police seized the nearly one ton of explosive materials and also a machine that was being used in manufacturing illegal crackers, the police officer said.

The four arrested men were making and selling crackers without obtaining its licence here from past some years,he said.
