The first session of the State Legislature of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh began on a stormy note, with Opposition party members throwing paper missiles, hooting, shouting slogans, whistling in derision and storming into the well to disrupt the joint address by Governor Ram Naik.

Unruffled by the ruckus, the Governor carried on his 30-minute long speech braving the Opposition's paper missiles and hooting. So much so that Marshals of the House had to create a human wall around Naik to thwart the paper missiles aimed at the constitutional head of the state.

Since it was a joint session, the numbers of Samajwadi Party (SP) members swelled to help the party create unruly scenes during the Governor's address. Carrying placards, Opposition members, mainly SP legislators, yelled slogans like, "Rajyapaal ankhein kholo, apraadh bada hain, kuch tu bolo (Governor open your eyes and say something on rising crime)" and stormed the well.

Once the Governor ended his speech with 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', Chief Minister Adityanath tabled the GST Bill and Speaker HN Dixit adjourned the House for Tuesday without holding any debate on the Bill.
During the entire tamasha, the Congress and BSP legislators carried the placards, but did not join the SP chorus of shouting slogans and throwing paper missiles at the Governor.

Later, an upset Naik expressed concern over the unruly behaviour of the Opposition members.

BJP spokesperson Siddharth Nath Singh said, "The entire session was telecast live and the people of the state have seen how serious SP legislators are about their welfare and the development of the state."

The session at the Upper House – Uttar Pradesh Council – lasted for only 7 minutes and was adjourned for Tuesday.
