A minister in the Yogi Cabinet on Tuesday banned entry of officers and visitors bringing bouquets and gifts for him.

The Small Medium Industries minister Satyadeo Pachauri was very annoyed on Tuesday when those visiting to meet him presented bouquets and gifts while meeting him.

The industries minister, who holds additional portfolios of Export Promotion, Khadi and Village Industries and Sericulture, passed an order directing officials and anyone visiting him not to carry any gifts or bouquets in his office.

"I am really annoyed with my visitors who bring in costly bouquet or some gift items to impress upon me for extracting benefits. They waste their as well as my precious time as under the present government only genuine works will be done and no favour would be granted to anyone," he said while passing the ban order.

The minister said that he felt awkward and at times embarrassed while receiving these costly bouquets which are nothing but a waste of money.

"A lot of time is wasted in exchanging these unnecessary pleasantries," he said, instructing his staff to ensure that no one enters his room with a bouquet or gift.

The ministers' visitors are mostly industrialists and high-profile businessmen who are in a habit of bringing costly gifts and bouquets to impress the minister for seeking favours.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already directed his Cabinet colleagues to deposit all gifts worth over Rs 5,000 to the state treasury.
