In a bizarre incident reminiscent of the lal batti mindset, the pistol of a Cabinet minister's bodyguard got sucked into an MRI machine when he entered the MRI room forcefully, against medical protocols, during an MRI scan of the minister.

On Friday, Satyadev Pachauri, Minister of Khadi, Village Industries, was taken to a Lucknow hospital, where doctors advised him to go for an MRI scan. As per medical protocol, no one is allowed inside an MRI room once the patient is put inside the machine. But, Mukesh Kumar, Pachauri's bodyguard, barged into the room and insisted on staying beside him.

The moment the operator switched on the machine to begin the scan, there was a loud bang and the magnetic field sucked the bodyguard's pistol in.

Hospital authorities claim that it will cost them a minimum of Rs 40 lakh to remove the pistol. Seriously ill patients awaiting an MRI will have to wait for a minimum of one week to ten days before the machine is operational again.
