PM Narendra Modi slammed the Congress and Samajwadi Party for misgovernance during a rally in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. Invoking Lord Shiva on the occasion of Maha Shivratri, Modi said, "People, with their third eye, can see what is good for them and what is bad. The poorest of the poor can detect truth."

"Since I took stern steps against corruption and banned notes, big forces are out to mislead the country,"  Modi said.

He also spoke about the BJP's performance in local body elections in different states. "BJP has fared well in all elections post-demonetization, be it civic polls in Odisha, Maharashtra or Chandigarh or panchayat polls. Results in Maharashtra are heartening for the BJP. Congress has been completely sidelined by the people," he said.

Describing at length the party's focus on farmers and armymen, he said, "We are putting into action Vajpayee's call, 'Jai jawan, Jai kisan.'"

"We have brought an insurance scheme for the farmers through which they will get money even if they are not able to sow seeds. What is Akhilesh's problem with the farmers? Only 14% of them have insurance in this state. Wherever there is BJP state, 50% farmers have taken the insurance scheme," he said, referring to Kisan Bima Yojna.

"Samajwadi Party has never cared for the farmers. We would waive off loans of small farmers if we come to power in Uttar Pradesh," Modi said. "Akhilesh forced the sugarcane farmers to get insurance, even though they don't need it," Modi added.

He also spoke about the surgical strike and OROP dispension to retired armymen. "Our armed forces did a commendable task. They destroyed terror camps across the border in the surgical strike. They've made nation proud. Out of the Rs 12, 000 crore, we have given Rs 7,000 crore OROP dues to the army," he said.

He slammed the Congress for doubting the surgical strike and not resolving the OROP issue. "Congress party, with whom SP has allied, never respected the armed forces. They did not even take note of troubles our ex-servicemen faced," he said.

"Instead of justice being delivered in UP police stations, you will see the bullying of Samajwadi Party. I urge people of Uttar Pradesh to elect a BJP government with full majority. We will ensure safety of people and security of the state," he said.
