Congress Party in Uttar Pradesh is toying with the idea of using insider vs outsider idiom in Uttar Pradesh. Highly placed source in the campaign team confirmed that Congress would like to portray Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as local boys against an outsider Modi. “We have not formalised the proposal but it one idea we would like to play with,” source said.
The Congress Party in Uttar Pradesh is toying with the idea of using the 'insider vs outsider' idiom in Uttar Pradesh. A highly-placed source in the campaign team confirmed that Congress would like to portray Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi as the local boys against an outsider, Modi. “We have not formalised the proposal but it one idea we would like to play with,” source said.
The reason why Congress has zeroed on this idea is because BJP has not given a phase for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections and would be banking on the charisma of Narendra Modi. Sources also said that since it is an assembly election Yadav and Gandhi can easily be portrayed as the local boys and rank the PM's as an outsider as it is the CM who stays back in the state once the election is over.
The idea also stands an equally good chance to run in hot water as Modi as a national campaigner is still the most powerful face in the country.
Narendra Modi also happens to be a sitting MP from Banaras. By calling him an outsider, Modi could also use the opportunity to make an emotional pitch saying that flimsy issues were being used to personally target him. Lastly, even the Gandhi’s migrated from Kashmir and settled in Allahabad which embraced them as their own.
The idea that the PM who has a national mandate be called an outsider in itself looks weak when it was under his campaign that the BJP won 71 seats.
Many would say that this goes with Prashant Kishore’s style whose election campaign also works on the line of powerful hashtags focused on a face rather than party issues. Even in this case, Kishore will campaign focusing on the face rather than what the manifesto promises. From chai par charcha, to Bihar mein bahar ho, nitish e kumar ho to coffee with captain and now rawat sang dawat have all been produced by Kishore’s team.
The sources also indicated that Priyanka Gandhi’s role in UP campaign will remain very limited and focus will only be on the campaign of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi. A source also confirmed that Priyanka’s campaign will be limited to Rai Barelli and Amethi and would be low profile in nature. Sources said that SP Congress campaign would have more local flavour than national.
