Ahead of phase 6 elections in Uttar Pradesh, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav addressed a joint rally at Gorakhpur.
The young leaders in the rally took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi of betraying Ganga maiya by saying he approached her only for votes and didn't bother to clean the surroundings once he became PM.
Gandhi said that PM keeps on making relations with people everywhere, but he doesn't know that relations need to be maintained. He also claimed that when he wanted to become PM, he bargained with Ganga maiya and called himself her son, but forgot all about her when he got the chair. "Maa ne bete ko PM bana diya, lekin PM ne maa ke liye kuch nahi kiya," he said. (Mother made her son a PM, but the PM forgot his mother later)
Gandhi also asked PM Modi to fulfill the promises he made to farmers. Drawing parallels to the Rs 1700 crore waiver that Congress government gave farmers, he said that Manmohan Singh had waived off loans of farmers when he was the PM, he didn't ask for a CM position as a barter for loans.
Before ending his speech, he questioned the PM asking when will AIIMS Gorakhpur be inaugrated.
CM Yadav on the other hand reiterated his Mann ki Baat comment, and asked PM Modi to indulge in "kaam ki baat". He further hit out at PM Modi's earlier comments in Uttar Pradesh and said he is a "baba who is concerned about kabristan and shamshaan."
Speaking about distribution of laptops by Samajwadi Party (SP) government, he said that in every corner of Gorakhpur one would find systems distributed by them and they will be providing cell phones to voters after elections.
Contradicting PM Modi's electricity comment, he said, "Hum Baba ko kahenge ki Samajwadi log har ghantey logon ko bijli de rahe hain. Agar aapko lag raha hai bijli nahi aa rahi toh apne ashram ke bagal wala taar pakad lena, aapko pata chal jayga bijli aa rhi hai ya nahi. Aur Babaji, agar jaldi pakad loge taar toh humein aur Rahul Gandhi ko bhi pata chal jayga ki bijli aa rhi hai ya nahin." (We want baba to know that Samajwadi Party government is providing electricity to houses every house. If you don't seem to believe us you can touch an electric wire alongside your ashram. You could do that soon, so that Rahul Gandhi and I know about electricity problem in UP)
