UP Elections 2017: BJP sweeps all Graduate MLC seats in state

Amidst Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh (UP), the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday got shot in the arm, by sweeping all three Graduate MLC seats of Kanpur, Bareilly and Gorakhpur, bolstering the party's confidence.

The MLC results came on the day of the first phase of polls in 73 constituencies of the western region, prompting Union Minister Prakash Javadekar hold a press conference in the BJP headquarters here to describe it as a "good beginning."

He said the party's victory in the MLC elections with a big margin shows that the wind is blowing in favour of his party. He claimed the people in the western U.P. are voting with enthusiasm to help the BJP sweep the Assembly elections.

On Akhilesh claiming that Modi is upset and angry over the BJP losing badly, Javadekar said the MLC results show that the people are voting in favour of the BJP and reports reaching the party headquarters show big response to the BJP in the polling on Saturday.
