In a first, the Uttar Pradesh Board on Sunday announced results of both High School and Intermediate examinations. 75.16 per cent and 72.43 per cent students have passed the exams respectively.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally called up Anjali Varma of Allahabad, who topped in the High School exams with 96.33 per cent marks, on her mobile to congratulate her for her achievement. He also congratulated other students who were among the top ten of both the exams conducted by the UP Board, which is considered largest in Asia.

"I am really thrilled to receive a direct call from the none but the Chief Minister congratulating me. I will certainly work harder to repeat my performance in Intermediate too," said Anjali.

The CM has also congratulated state Education Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma for conducting successful examination free of mass copying. Adityanath also hailed Sharma for declaring the results in record time. "A function will be held shortly to honour these toppers," the CM said.

State Education Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma said that for the first time copies of all ten toppers in the Board examinations will be uploaded on the Board's website to encourage others to follow their footsteps. A street will also be named after toppers in their respective villages/areas to honour them, he added.

With 93.20 per cent marks each, Rajneesh Shukla of Fatehpur and Akash Maurya of Bara Banki shared the first spot in the list of toppers in the Intermediate exam, while the second rank was obtained by Ananya Rai of Ghazipur district who scored 92.60 per cent. Yashashwi of Fatehpur ranked second in the list of toppers in High School with 94.50 marks.

Despite unprecedented measures to check mass copying and about 12 lakh students subsequently opting to drop both examinations, a drop of only 6.02 per cent was registered in results of both examination in comparison to last year.

In High School exams, 30,28,767 students had appeared in the exams, which began from February 6. About 72.27 per cent girls and 78.81 boys were declared successful. 26,04,093 students had appeared in Intermediate in which 14,12,519 boys and 11,91,574 girls were declared passed.

The UP Board exams had ended on March 12 and the evaluation work was started from March 18. For the first time in its history, results of both the examinations were declared in April simultaneously.
