Buoyant after registering a stunning victory in the Lok Sabha bypolls in Uttar Pradesh, ex-chief Minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav addressed media on Wednesday.

‘This a historic win, this is a victory of social justice,’ a confident Yadav told media at a post-victory press conference in Lucknow on Wednesday.

Yadav attributed SP wins to the support from Dalits, farmers, labourers, women and unemployed.

Thanking his bypoll alliance partner BSP, Yadav expressed gratitude towards Maywati for her support. He also thanked the BSP workers.

Taking a dig at the ‘acche din’ slogan, Yadav said that people were waiting for acche din for a long time. ‘The acche din never came. But people got together and brought BJP’s ‘bure din’ (bad days).’

‘Governments which trouble people are brought down; this government brought problems and led to fear among people,’ Yadav added.

In a stinging attack against CM Yogi Adityanath, Yadav said that ‘hateful’ words were used on the floor of the House, but people have gave befitting reply to such divisive politics.

A day before the verdict, Yadav had slammed the BJP’s Naresh Agarwal for his derogatory remarks against senior SP leader Jaya Bachchan.

In a tweet, the SP chief said, "We condemn the BJP and Naresh Agrawal for his derogatory statement against Jaya Bachchan. This is an insult to every Indian woman and the film industry. If the BJP really respects women, then it should immediately take action against him. The women's commission should also look into it."

Agarwal, who quit the Samajwadi Party (SP) and joined the BJP yesterday, had said he was denied a ticket to the Upper House of Parliament for someone "who used to dance in films".

The SP has re-nominated Jaya Bachchan to the Rajya Sabha.

While SP chief Akhilesh Yadav demanded that the BJP should immediately take action against him, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati demanded that Agrawal should tender an apology to the nation for making "anti-women" remarks.
