Punjab Assembly on Monday witnessed unruly scenes when some opposition Congress MLAs threw booklets containing the achievements of Amarinder Singh government towards the treasury benches.

During Zero Hour, Leader of Opposition Charanjit Singh Channi along with other Congress members protested against not being allowed by Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal to speak on the floor of the House.

In the melee, some Congress MLAs, including Kuljeet Singh Nagra, threw booklets containing achievements of Amarinder Singh-led Congress government between 2002 to 2007 towards the treasury benches. Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia of SAD expressed surprise and asked the reason for the act.

"Besides, the booklets contained pictures of Congress leaders (whose names were expunged by the Speaker)...its shameful," he said.

As the situation got worse, the Speaker adjourned the House for 17 minutes. After the House re-assembled, Majithia took a dig at the Congress, saying he wanted to file a complaint regarding lost and found as "some one has lost a document which is with him" (referring to the thrown booklets).

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Mohan Mittal sought an apology from the Congress.

"They (Congress MLAs) have lowered the dignity of their own big leaders," he said referring to the booklets which had pictures of Congress leaders.

The Speaker, with folded hands, requested the opposition to maintain the decorum and called for taking up the next agenda.

However, unrelenting Congress members went into the well of the House and staged a vociferous demonstration for about 15 minutes before walking out.
