Two British citizens were taken into custody for allegedly abusing and misbehaving with an Air India cabin crew member aboard a London to Delhi flight on Wednesday. The duo's misbehaviour led to a ruckus, prompting the authorities to approach the police after the flight landed at the IGI airport in Delhi.

According to the police, the accused, identified as Jaspaal Singh and Charandeep Khaira, who were visiting India on a tourist visa to attend a wedding in Jaipur, were arrested and later granted bail. Breath analysis reports confirmed that they were under under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) commandos rushed to the aircraft and escorted the two men to the IGI police station. A case under IPC Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) was registered against them. The British High Commission was informed about the incident.

"The statements of the victims and 3-4 eyewitnesses were recorded and a case was registered. The accused are into the business of real estate and were later granted bail. The matter is being looked into," said a senior police officer.

A week before, an elderly Air India employee was beaten by a Shiv Sena MP, after which he was barred from flying by many airlines. Wednesday's incident occurred around 11 am after AI 112 landed at the IGI airport.

A cabin crew member, who has been working with the carrier for the past two years, said: "We often come across such unruly passengers. We are trained to tackle all kinds of situation and people. When matters grow out of control, we inform our seniors and even the pilots."

This is not the first time a cabin crew member is facing such a behaviour. Last year, on board an IndiGo flight from Bhubaneswar to Delhi, a passenger had allegedly stripped himself in the lavatory of flight 6E-256 and called an air hostess for assistance. Authorities later alerted the police and security agencies in Delhi and an FIR was lodged after landing.

In January 2015, a 58-year-old chartered accountant was arrested for allegedly molesting an Air India air hostess on board a flight from Delhi to Amritsar. In June the same year, an air hostess on-board a Jet Airway's Patna to Delhi flight had levelled charges of harassment and misbehaviour against former RJD MP Pappu Yadav.
