Unnao Rape case: Yogi Adityanath finally withdraws 'Y' security of Kuldeep Singh Sengar

A home department official said that the decision was taken after the Sengar was arrested by the CBI on charges of alleged gang rape and murder of the victim's father in the police custody

A week after his arrest, the Yogi Adityanath government finally withdrew the 'Y' category security provided to Unnao rape and murder accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

A home department official said that the decision was taken after the Sengar was arrested by the CBI on charges of alleged gang rape and murder of the victim's father in the police custody. "The security has been withdrawn as per rules. Anyone facing criminal charges or under arrest is not provided any security cover by the state government," said the official.

Sengar was accorded 'Y Category' security with two police commandos and 11 police men acting as bodyguards. The Unnao Police Lines confirmed that they had withdrawn Sengar's security cover. "We have withdrawn the security cover on the directives of the state home department," said G.N. Singh of the Unnao Police Lines. Meanwhile, the CBI has filed an application before the POCSO Court at Unnao seeking permission to submit the gang rape victim's sealed statement in the court.

Court extends CBI remand

In a surprise move, the investigating agency produced Sengar before the Special Judge POCSO Court no 10 in Unnao district and sought his remand. The CBI remand of the BJP MLA, who is facing charges under Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Court, was ending on Saturday. Special POCSO Judge Ashutosh Kumar extended Sengar's CBI remand till April 27. Soon after getting his remand from the POCSO Court, the CBI sleuths took Sengar to some unknown destination for further interrogation.
