BJP’s senior leader and minister in the Vasundhra Raje government Kailash Meghwal was on Wednesday elected as Speaker of the Assembly, unopposed.

Addressing the state Assembly after Meghwal was declared as the Speaker, chief minister Vasundhara Raje said that the government and the Opposition are two wheels of a chariot called democracy and the Assembly Speaker is the charioteer, who has a great role to play in maintain balance between these two.

Raje said that the Assembly was not just a building made of cement, bricks and stones, but a temple which houses the sentiments of the people of the state and every single word being spoken here should be sacred and truthful. “Words uttered here echo not only in the House, but in the entire country and the world. Thus, it was responsibility of all its members to maintain and preserve the sanctity of the Assembly,” Raje said.

As the leader of the House, chief minister Vasundhara Raje assured the Speaker that for the progress of the state whenever required, she would dialogue with members of the Opposition and take them into confidence.
