Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured the people of Assam and Jammu & Kashmir that the Centre will provide all possible assistance to the flood-hit states to overcome the disaster.

Singh spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and J&K Governor NN Vohra separately to discuss the state of affairs.

In a telephonic conversation with Sonowal, the Union minister reviewed the situation in Assam where large areas are submerged under water. The deluge has claimed more than 30 lives across seven districts, dislocated thousands, and also deferred the publication of the final draft of the National Register of Citizens, a list of the state's citizens.

Speaking with Governor Vohra, the home minister enquired how certain parts of Jammu and Kashmir are faring, and assured all possible support and cooperation to the state in tackling the deluge, a Home Ministry official said.

A flood alert has been sounded in central Kashmir and Jammu region after three people died in rain-related incidents.
