Union health minister Harsh Vardhan chalks out plan to control encephalitis

Union health minister Dr Harsh Vardan organized a meeting in Delhi on Tuesday regarding the spread of encephalitis in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The Bihar Health Secretary was also present at the meet.

Dr Harsh Vardhan assured that all possible steps would be taken to prevent the spread of disease. Special arrangements will be done in Bihar, including the arrangement of special beds and wards for children affected with encephalitis. Hundred ventilators will be povided in the areas which have higher incidence of encephalitis, he mentioned.

The havoc of encephalitis continues in Muzaffarpur and 42 children have died so far. 13 children affected with encephalitis were admitted in PMCH’s child department in the first nine days itself this month, out of which four succumbed to the disease and rest are struggling for life.

Asha workers and anganwadi workers have been assigned the duty to impart important information about encephalitis. They will go door to door distributing ORS packets, and distributing pamphlets about the diseases, its prevention and cure. All this will be monitored by district collector. The collector will keep a track whether the awareness program is being carried out well or not.
