An undertrial in a murder case was shot dead by two persons outside the Rohini district court here today.

One of the assailants, identified as Mohit (19), was nabbed, while the other, Satish, managed to flee. It is suspected that the killing was a fallout of rivalry between two gangs, the police said.

Rajesh Durmut (38), was arrested by the Haryana Police in a murder case in December last year. He was listed as a "bad character" at Bawana Police station here, DCP (Rohini) Rishi Pal said.

Rajesh, who was involved in many cases of murder and dacoity, was brought to the Rohini court by the Haryana Police for a hearing, the officer said.

The incident took place around 11.30 AM. As soon as Rajesh, along with a few police personnel, got off a vehicle, Mohit shot him in the chest. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.

Mohit was nabbed on the spot and two countrymade pistols were seized from him. His accomplice, Satish, managed to flee, they said.

Rajesh was a member of the Neetu Dabodia gang, while both Mohit and Satish belong to gangster Neeraj Bawania's gang, a police official said.

Mohit belongs to Jhajjar district of Haryana and does not have a previous criminal record, the DCP said.

He is being interrogated to know why Rajesh was gunned down and who had ordered his killing. A hunt is on to nab Satish, the officer said, adding police have started looking for Rajesh's family members.
