Actor turned politician and TMC MP from Ghatal in West Midnapore, Deepak Adhikary popularly known as Dev admitted that he was unable to put in his 100% as the member of parliament, as his acting career has taken priority.

Talking exclusively to DNA at his South City residence when he was asked if he was comfortably settled in politics after the early hiccups, he said, “Not at all. In politics you have to give your 100% time which I am very sorry to say I couldn’t.” He also said that he had not been able to give enough time to his constituency though he had tried his best. About the 2019 Lok Sabha polls’ candidature from his constituency he said, “It will be completely didi’s (Mamata Banerjee) decision. We have no interference and I am sure whoever she gives it, will do justice to that.” Though he did not specify whether he would want to opt out of the race, saying, “It will be between didi and me. Let it be our personal matter. I dont' want to discuss it.”

Dev has been campaigning for his latest home production Kabir where he plays a terrorist. In the context of the recent communal flare ups at Asansol and Raniganj areas of West Bengal, Dev said he could never imagine the film would have become so topical.

Talking about the forthcoming panchayat polls too he said he would not be campaigning for any candidate. “By now you must have understood that I hardly know anything of politics so I don't know. Besides, I am busy with my shooting. I have never campaigned for anyone other than the CM and if she asks me to do anything I will do it,” he added.

Unlike some fellow actors and politicians, Dev had never believed in foul mouthing others during his political campaign. “For me, a person who is voting for BJP, CPI(M) or TMC is also my audience. Politics has become taboo in our country and it is assumed that all politicians are corrupt persons. It is our fault only. We have never been taught to aspire to be a good politician when at 80 per cent of adda sessions we talk about politics. As far as I am concerned, I want positivity from politics, respect for each other. The perspective of people towards politics should change,” he said.
