Ujjain surgeon sacked over video of him kissing nurse in operation theatre

A surgeon in a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain has been sacked after a video clip of him kissing a woman, identified as a nurse, inside an operation theatre went viral on social media. The video clip was reportedly circulated on a WhatsApp group.

The district administration said it has removed the 49-year-old civil surgeon from his post, and has asked him to submit an explanation.

The undated clip was reportedly one among many other such clips of the surgeon, and had been posted in a WhatsApp group.

"I have removed him from the post of civil surgeon of the district hospital," Ujjain district collector Shashank Mishra told PTI, for 'behaviour unbecoming of an officer'.

Officials said they have ordered an inquiry into the incident. Sources told PTI that the woman in the clip is a nurse at the same hospital where the surgeon worked. However, they refused to confirm if the room seen in the clip was indeed the hospital's operation theatre.

Local police said they have not received any complaint so far.

The surgeon has reportedly been on leave since the video emerged, and it remains unclear as to the motives with which the video clips were made public.
