After several aspirants of the National Eligibility Test (NET) were confused about the upcoming July exam, UGC has now cleared the air that the exam would be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

DNA had earlier reported about several NET aspirants being confused about whether or not the exam would take place in the month of July as the notification for the same which comes out by first week of April was still not out.

The CBSE had earlier written to the HRD ministry to relieve the body from additional burden of conducting exams like the NET, which gets close to 5 lakh applications every year.

The exam is a necessary pre-requisite for the appointment of assistant professors and to get the Junior Research Fellowship.

In a recently held event in Delhi, the University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman V.S. Chauhan said that the commission has recently spoken to the CBSE and the exam would be conducted like every year.

Students said that while the decision comes as a major relief, the CBSE should release a notification in this respect soon.
