Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh on Sunday condemned the recent rape of a 27-year-old woman in the national capital and stressed on the need for gender sensitization.

"I came to the police station to see what's being done about the case, the girl is traumatized. The cab company in question should be banned, gender sensitization should be taught," Shukla said.

"The government will keep zero tolerance on this matter. These events are happening under the government, but the BJP is silent on this case. Such cases should be given priority as this way the females won't be secured in Delhi. Therefore, a tough message should be sent to the common people," she added.

Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) member Shamina Shafiq stressed on the need to focus more on the punishment than the crime to make the country safer for women.

Congress leader Shobha Oza on her part slammed the cab company for hiring drivers without proper verification.

"This is a shameful incident. How can the organization hire such drivers without the verification? We are working on the matter and the 'Mahila Aayog' will take steps in Delhi. We will teach girls how to drive so that they can work as cab drivers," said Oza.

"It is not that such events have increased; it is the reporting that has increased. We will meet the commissioner in case the accused doesn't reach Delhi," she added.

A 27-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a cab driver in Delhi earlier on Friday. The police have recovered the car in which the girl was allegedly raped from Mathura.

The victim works in a finance company in Gurgaon. She had hired the cab to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi after dining with friends on Friday night.
