Two train passengers drugged, hospitalised

Two people were allegedly drugged in a Uttar Pradesh-bound train, following which they were hospitalised in an unconsciousness state, the Government Railway Poilce (GRP) said today.

Rakesh Kumar Dubey (28) and Sandeep Kumar Chaurasia (22) were travelling by the Amritsar-Gorakhpur Express yesterday when the incident occurred, GRP official Harmesh Lal said.

Dubey, a businessman had boarded the train at Amritsar for Ludhiana and Chaurasia, a student, at Jalandhar for Basit in Uttar Pradesh, he said.

Both were first served biscuits by a co-traveller and then they were given cold drink laced with some drug between Jalandhar and Phagwara, the officer said.

The motive of the person was to rob the duo, but he did not succeed because of presence other passengers, he said.

They were in an unconscious state when GRP personnel took them out of the train and to the Civil Hospital, Lal said.

They gained consciousness today and Dubey was taken back to Amritsar by his family, but Chaurasia is still in stupor, he said.

"We have requisitioned the services of the anti-drug squad and other experts to ascertain the nature and quantity of drugs given to the the duo," the officer said.
