An inmate and a manager of a Bal Sudhaar Grih in Purnia died on Wednesday evening after they were shot at by another juvenile at the home, the police said.

According to police, the incident took place when the inmates of the correctional home were playing outside in the evening. "The guard was also with them. They said they heard gunshots and rushed inside where they saw that one juvenile had injured another inmate Saroj Kumar and the house's father-cum-manager Bijendra Kumar," a police source said.

He added, "The guard said the armed juvenile forced him to open the main gates and fled along with two or three others, while he rushed Bijendra and Saroj to Sadar hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Two other inmates have also sustained minor injuries in the incident."

Senior police officials reached the hospital and the correctional home to take stock of the situation. "We are investigating how the juvenile got a gun and how many have run away. Raids are on to nab them. The family members of the deceased inmate who was from Madhepura have also been informed," he added.

The double murders at the correctional home come at a time when such facilities are under the scanner in Bihar after irregularities cropping up at institutions in Muzaffarpur and Patna and other places across the state.

Incidentally, Bihar Transport Minister Santosh Nirala was under attack on Wednesday when he said that such incidents (of murder) happen but rule of law was present in Bihar, while he was visiting the family members of a murdered party leader in Gopalganj.
