Two Mumbai students secure third rank in India for ISC exams

Arkya Chatterjee, a student from Bivekananda Mission School, Kolkata is this year's topper for class XII ISC exams, scoring 99.75%. She has broken CISCE's five-year record too.

The second position was taken by four students with a score of 99.5%, and the third place by 13 students who scored 99.25 %, among whom two are from Mumbai.

This includes science students Sanjana Ravjiani from St Gregorios High school and Ashutosh Lohana (17) from Lilavatibai Podar school. Among the list of top 18 candidates in India declared by the board, 12 are girls.

Speaking to dna, Ashutosh said: "I used to study for three hours daily during school days, and 13 hours during the holidays. I had a big poster of 98% in my room so that I could motivate myself." He found Maths to be the toughest subject.

He plans to pursue architecture now, and scored 89% in his X standard.

Sanjana said that she never took her studies too seriously, but ensured she dedicated two hours daily to study. She is an avid reader, and participated in several debates and elocution competitions in school.

While her parents are dentist, she is keen to study law. About this decision, she said: "No one in my family is in this profession, but I have decided to pursue a career in law, with the support of my family."

She scored 96.67% in her ICSE X exam.

The pass percentage in class XII ISC examination was 96.28%, which is 1.01% up from the previous year.

The examinations are conducted by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). This year, more than 71,000 candidates took the exam.

Girls did far better than boys in class XII with the difference in pass percentage being over 2%. The pass percentage of girls stood at 97.49% as compared to 95.27% in the case of boys. Last year too, the girls had fared better than boys.

In terms of region wise performance, Southern region recorded the highest pass percentage of 99.08%.
