Two days after the TRS stormed the Telangana Assembly elections, the party managed to widen its already large margin of victory. Two MLAs joined the TRS the day before party chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) took oath as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term.

Independent MLA from Wyra, Lavudya Ramulu, and Forward Bloc MLA from Ramagundam, K Chandar Patel, met KCR and his son KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday and joined the TRS. Both of them had defeated TRS candidates in the elections.

This has taken the TRS's total strength in the new Telangana Assembly to 90. The party had swept the election, winning 88 of the 119 seats in the state. The supermajority is likely to be even more of a brute force in the Assembly considering the positive words and symbols that have been exchanged between the TRS and the AIMIM, which won seven seats in the Hyderabad region.

Ramulu was a member of the Congress party. He had contested as an independent candidate in Wyra, significantly raising the drama quotient in the constituency. He had filed his nomination as an independent because he had been unhappy that the Congress had allotted the seat to Mahakutami ally, the CPI. Ramulu prevailed by about 2,000 votes over the incumbent, Banoth Madan Lal of the TRS. The CPI candidate was about 17,000 votes behind Ramulu.

Patel was the only candidate from a Leftist party, irrespective of alliance, to win a seat in the 2018 Assembly election. He had contested as a candidate of the All India Forward Bloc, defeated Somarapu Satyanarayana of the TRS by over 26,000 votes.

Patel has history with the TRS. He had contested on a TRS ticket in the 2009 Assembly election, but had lost. He was denied a ticket by the TRS in 2014, and had jumped ship to the Forward Bloc. He ended up losing narrowly to Satyanarayana. Reports suggest Patel's electoral bid had benefitted from a sympathy wave. His wife had died just days before the election.
