Two minor boys drown in Vasco pit

Two minors drowned in a pit filled with rain water at Zuarinagar-Vasco. The bodies of the deceased Rohit Pandey, 8 and Sameer Malbari, 12 were recovered on Saturday evening.

The incident occurred when a group of four boys went for a swim in the pit. They carried with them tyre tubes to help them float. One of the tubes was found in the pit when bodies of the boys were recovered.

While search for the other two boys was ongoing, it was later revealed that they had reached their respective homes safely.

"We were working in the vicinity when we heard someone crying for help and rushed to the spot. We reached the spot but were told that two boys had drowned," a local said.

The pit was 10 ft deep and dug on the property of Inductrial Development Corporation of Goa. The police and fire brigade personnel, who carried out the search operation, tried to contact officials of the Goa IDC to understand the purpose behind the pit as it can pose a danger as the monsoons intensify. But none of the officials could be contacted.
