Two persons were killed and one was injured when a four wheeler fell in a ditch and overturned along NH 34 at Mahanala in Nadia district today, the police said.
The incident happened at 4.30 AM within limits of Chakdaha police station when a vehicle carrying five persons including the driver was travelling to Kolkata from Malda, the police said.
The driver and another passenger in the vehicle escaped unhurt, the police said.
The deceased were identified as Swapan Mandal (52) and Tapan Mandal (50), both residents residents of Kaliachak in Malda district. The injured person was admitted at Chakdaha Hospital.
According to police the accident happened as the driver reportedly fell asleep.
The police also said while one person died on the spot, the other person died while being taken to Kalyani JNM Hospital from Chakdaha Hospital.
