Seven terms-MLA of Congress from Thasra and chairman of Amul Dairy, Ramsinh Parmar, and five terms-MLA from Balasinor Mansinh Chauhan, joined BJP on Sunday in the presence of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and BJP chief Jitu Vaghani at Dakor in Kheda district. The two resigned as MLAs on July 27, before the Rajya Sabha polls, showing displeasure against Gujarat Congress leadership. Along with them, ten thousand workers of Congress also joined BJP. This is considered to be a jolt for Congress in its fort, Central Gujarat.

The event was organised amidst huge fanfare by BJP in Dakor to impress the voters of central Gujarat who have always supported Congress. In his speech, Ramsinh Parmar said, “I was not satisfied as a member of the party which had gone ideologically bankrupt and could not come to power in last two decades. My supporters suggested that I join BJP. There are people in Congress who were abusing my family because I quit their party and that is not good. I take a pledge here that I will not let Congress win a single seat in Kheda and Anand.” Apart from this, 10 members of Congress in Mansa Taluka Panchayat also defected to BJP in this event. Out of 18 Congress members, eight remain and this would remove Congress from power in this local government body.
