Two Ola cab drivers arrested for raping and killing minor in Kolkata

Two Ola cab drivers were on Wednesday arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a minor girl in Kolkata.

According to NDTV, a 12-year-old girl was abducted at 5 am from the pavement where she was living with her family.

Drivers Shankar Shaw and Guddu Singh allegedly took the victim to the Park Circus flyover and raped her in the vehicle and later, throttled the girl and tossed her body into a canal below the flyover, reported Hindustan Times.

The report also said that before picking up the girl, the accused had consumed alcohol at Watgunge.  "We are still ascertaining details about the men who committed the crime," a senior officer of the Kolkata police said.

Reacting to the incident, Ola released a statement: 

"We are saddened by the reports of the alleged misbehaviour of a driver in Kolkata. On preliminary identification of the cab details shared by authorities, we have suspended the account associated with this cab with immediate effect. As per our records, this incident has not occurred while on the Ola platform. We will work with the authorities to share any information that will help support their investigation."
