Two BSF personnel were critically injured after they were attacked by a group of smugglers on the Indo-Bangla border near here, BSF sources said on Saturday.

Ghulam Rasool (35) and Harinder Singh (27) of the 125 battalion were on patrol duty last night at Mirik Sultanpur under Kalichak police station on the border when they intercepted about 30 smugglers trying to smuggle out bottles of cough syrup to Bangladesh, the sources said.

When challenged, the Bsf personnel were attacked with sharp weapons, their limbs slashed and left unconscious, the sources said while the smugglers escaped.

They were later rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital where their condition was stated to be serious, the sources added.
