Former PM Manmohan Singh turned 83 on Saturday. While PM Narendra Modi and other politicians have already wished him, Twitterati are still tweeting enthusiastically. Here are some significant tweets:

This user takes a more sarcastic line, but the conclusion is what matters.

Another heartfelt message:

Most bhakts would be furious with Ganeshan Iyer:
MMS never spoke. Namo speaks a lot when not needed & keeps mum when Janta asks for answers. Who's better? RT for MMS. #HappyBirthdayMMS

Plain Speak spoke plainly:

MalhaRonaldo hits the nail on the head:

Gau is very succinct in his remarks:
Happy Birthday, Delilah Wilshere. Also, #HappyBirthdayMMS , the one true liberator who later got leashed.

Mr Saran throws a positive light upon Manmohan's term as PM:
Man who made the Indian economy as 3rd Largest Global economy Salute to Him #HappyBirthdayMMS

Bob Biswas makes a very crucial, very pertinent point:
@SalmanSoz imagine the great things he would have been able to accomplish for India if Sonia Gandhi wasn't in his way. #HappyBirthdayMMS

While Manmohan Singh may not enjoy the popularity of Narendra Modi, his legacy as India's finance minister during the 1991 liberalisation will never be forgotten. That he ushered the country away from beaureucratic socialism into a new era with much higher growth and opportunity is his enduring legacy.
Most people also empathise with Singh for the alleged limits imposed on his powers during his terms as PM. Singh remained a largely untainted figure even as scam after scam broke during UPA-2. His remark that history would judge him more kindly seems to be slowly coming true.
