Shock, anger, and outrage has gripped the nation after Twitter removed the picture of the 68 feet high National Flag at Pahalgam, from one of its posts terming it as "sensitive material".

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which unfurled the flag in Pahalgam this week, has decided to take up this issue with Twitter and start a strong protest against this move.

Set in the backdrop of snowcapped mountains of Pahalgam, the 18x12 feet tricolor flying atop 68 flag post, was unveiled by the CRPF with an aim to promote tourism and instill confidence among the people visiting troubled South Kashmir.

Soon after, people took to Twitter to share the picture of the giant flag with patriotic messages.

Mujaid Alam Bakarwal, who introduces himself as cartoonist and a Kashmiri Gujjar from an Army family on Twitter, posted the picture of the flag with a message: "Tricolor flying high in Kashmir. Our tricolor unfurled on 68 feet high and this is the highest flag in our valley adjacent to CRPF flag of 63 feet. Thankyou CRPF."

Twitter was quick to take down the picture with a message: "The following media may contain sensitive material. The media is not available because it includes the content you have chosen not to see".

The decision evoked a flutter with people lambasting Twitter and seeking answers. "Hello @TwitterIndia, how can you identify my national flag as a sensitive material?? My National flag Tricolor and @crpfindia flag is the pride of our Nation," wrote Bakerwal.

Moses Dhinakaran, another twitterati, reminded Twitter that national flag is the pride of the people of this country.

"Dear @Twitter @TwitterIndia kindly tell what is so sensitive in my national flag and @crpfindia flag flying high and how did it become a matter of concern for you? Numerous women and men are working for the pride of this flag, they have devoted their lives to this flag", wrote Dhinakaran.

Though Twitter restored the pictures of the National Flag, the CRPF did not take it well and has decided to start a strong protest against this move.

"We are going to take it up strongly at the appropriate level immediately. By no stretch of imagination can this be a sensitive matter. In fact, removing it from Twitter is sensitive. How can you remove the picture of National Flag in Pahalgam? That has come as a shock to us. We are taking it up strongly," Zulfiquar Hassan, Inspector General of CRPF (Operations), told DNA.
