The mechanical engineering student, who was allegedly kidnapped by a Jain monk, mysteriously appeared before the Haridwar police and told them that the monk, Nayan Sagar, had nothing to do with her disappearance.

The girl, an M Tech student of Core Engineering College, told the police that she had left the college on her own on July 28 after her family had put pressure on her to not divorce her husband. She informed Sagar that would be leaving campus without informing anyone.

On August 1, the girl’s father lodged a complaint at Bahadarabad Police Station in Haridwar, alleging that Nayan Sagar had kidnapped her. He based his allegations on two video clips that have gone viral on social media that show his daughter with Nayan Sagar.

The girl told the police that she fears for her life from her family members because of the viral videos. She, however, did not elaborate on the contents of the viral video.

The HarIdwar and Muzaffarnagar Police that booked the Jain monk have heaved a sigh of relief after the girl’s return. The police was to go to Chandigarh to question Nayan Sagar, who is in the city for a pilgrimage, about the alleged kidnapping case.

The Hardwar Police took the girl to the ACJM First Gagan Deep Sharma’s Court and recorded her statement under Section 164 of the CrPC. The SHO Bahadarabad Manohar Singh said that after recording her statement before the magistrate, the police left her to the college campus.

The girl’s family members, however, continued to blame the Jain Monk for the kidnapping of the Girl. The girl’s uncle, alleged that the police did not inform the family members about her return. “We came to know late Friday night. It seems that the police were trying to save the Nayan Sagar,” he alleged

The Jain Monk, who is facing social boycott by Jain Samaj after the tapes went viral on social media, and following allegations that he would 'hire call girls to come to his ashram', has not reacted to the return of the girl. Earlier, he had stated that a conspiracy was hatched to tarnish his image and the truth will come out soon.
