Twin terror attacks leave cop dead, another injured in south Kashmir

Terrorists carried out two back-to-back attacks on the Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday, leaving one police personnel dead and another injured in the districts of Pulwama and Shopian in south Kashmir region.

First attack was carried out at Imam Sahab village in Shopian when terrorists lobbed a grenade at the camp of Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police. The grenade exploded without causing any damage.

Hours later terrorists struck at Rajpora in Pulwama district when they fired at a Naka Party at 4.10 pm. Policemen posted in the naka retaliated, forcing the terrorists to beat a retreat. Two police personnel, however, were injured in the incident.

"A police party on naka duty at Rajpora was fired upon by some terrorists. In the ensuing gun battle, two police personnel sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital," said a police spokesman.

Later one of the cops succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. He has been identified as selection grade constable Abdul Salam. "We pay our tribute to Sg ct.Abdul Salam who attained martyrdom today in a terror attack at Rajpora", tweeted SP Pani, deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and massive searches have been started to track down the terrorists responsible for the incident.

The twin terror attacks comes two days after militants slit the throat of BJP youth district president Gowhar Ahmad Bhat in Shopian district.

The attacks also come on the day a defunct Tehreek-ul-Mujhadeen released a video announcing their comeback. A spokesman of the outfit said they would intensify the attacks on the security forces in the state.
