The ruling AIAMDK faction led by Edappadi K Palanisamy on Thursday passed a resolution, saying that TTV Dhinakaran's appointment as deputy general secretary is invalid.

The resolution also said that new office bearers appointed by Dhinakaran is also null and void.

Formal expulsion of party General Secretary VK Sasikala and her nephew Dinakaran from the party was the important condition for merger by the O Panneerselvan led rebel faction.

Sources said that the decision was a step forward towards the reunion of the two warring factions of the AIADMK.

"Already the two factions are holding talks and arrived at an agreement by which EPS will continue as CM while OPS will head the party," sources said.

The decision was taken ahead of Palanisamy's visit to New Delhi on Friday where he will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. O Panneerselvan is also scheduled to visit Delhi on Friday.

Modi had expressed his wish to see two factions coming together to provide a stable government in Tamil Nadu.

As per the AIADMK's bylaw, only a person who was a party member for five years without any break can hold the party posts.

Dinakaran was expelled by late Jayalalithaa in December 2011, along with Sasikala and other family members.

He was admitted by Sasikala on February 15, the day she surrendered in the Bengaluru court in connection with the corruption case, and on the same day he was made party deputy general secretary.
