Ousted AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran on Friday vowed to end the rule of Edappadi K Palaniswami government within a week.

"There is no history of adharma and betrayal having triumphed. In one week we will end this rule of betrayal in the Assembly," he said indicating at a possible floor test of the government.

The Madras High Court on Thursday directed that no floor test should be held in the state Assembly till September 20.

Speaking to reporters, Dhinakaran alleged that Palaniswami had tried to 'adopt a shortcut' method of facing a floor test by disqualifying 18 MLAs who supported Dhinakaran. "The shortcut adopted by Palaniswami is he tried to have the floor test by Monday (apparently September 18) after disqualification (of his supporting MLAs)," he alleged. He added that after doing so Palaniswami may not require to garner the required support of 117 MLAs to win the trust vote.

In the 234-member state Assembly, Palaniswami camp has 114 MLAs, while Dhinakaran has the support of 21 MLAs.

Dhinakaran's faction had moved the court against a possible disqualification of its MLAs after 'sensing' such possible action from Speaker P Dhanapal. The speaker had issued a notice to 19 dissident MLAs who gave letters to Governor withdrawing support to the CM on August 22. The notice was issued based on the recommendation of the AIADMK whip K Rajendran.

On Friday, Palaniswami and deputy CM O Panneerselvam held a discussion with the speaker a day after the Government Advocate General told the court that the Speaker had initiated the process to take action on the disqualification notice.

Meanwhile, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday asked the Election Commission of India to decide on the AIADMK symbol row. The court has given the ECI till October 31 to decide which faction of the AIADMK should get the party's two-leaves symbol.

The ECI had frozen the AIADMK party's name and symbol in March earlier this year after two factions of the AIADMK led by Sasikala Natarajan and O Panneerlsevam staked claim to it. While the two factions have now merged, making way for a new rebel group under TTV Dhinakaran, the symbol and name of the party continue to be frozen.A bench comprising justices K K Sasidharan and G R Swaminathan directed the EC to decide which faction enjoyed a majority in the ruling party in Tamil Nadu and allot the 'two leaves' symbol to it before October 31. It said there was an urgency to decide the matter in view of local body elections in the state to be completed before November 17, as directed by a court.
