After breathing the fresh air of freedom following his eight year jail term for a crime he did not commit, Satyam Babu on Sunday said that truth has finally prevailed and called for stringent punishment against the real perpetrators of Ayesha Meera, who was brutally raped and murdered in 2007.

"At last truth has won, I suffered in jail for eight years. Now the real culprits in Ayesha Meera case should be punished," Babu told media.

Inordinate delay is a part of our Indian judicial system and sometimes innocent people have to wait for justice for uncertain period. Highlighting this facet is the case of Satyam Babu.

Babu, rotted in prison for eight years on the charges of rape and murder of Ayesh Meera in Vijaywada back in 2007.

Babu, who was sentenced to life term in the case, was released from Rajahmundry Jail after being acquitted by the Hyderabad High Court on Friday.

The High Court also awarded him Rs.1 lakh compensation and also reprimanded the police for putting him in jail for eight years without a cause or proper evidence to show his involvement in the case.

The court said it was inhuman on the part of the police and ordered action against the officials responsible for Babu's arrest and confinement.

Babu was convicted by the Vijayawada women's special sessions court in 2010 in the case under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder and section 376 for rape.

Satyam was framed for killing and raping the BPharm student of Nimrah College whose naked body was found in her hostel in 2007.

However, Babu's relatives and Human Rights activists refuted the allegation claiming that he was charged in the case to shield the real perpetrators.

They further said that Babu is suffering from a neurological disorder and is not even able to walk.

Even the victim's parent had denied the police claim that Babu was involved in their daughter's murder saying that police is trying to save political influential people.
