A Ramzan ceasefire with terrorists is on the cards as Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti convened a meeting of all political parties in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday to discuss the proposal aimed at bringing some relief to the strife-torn state. But there is little clarity on how this will be implemented.

Sources said security forces in Kashmir are not willing to commit but the possibility of a partial ceasefire is being explored. "Non initiation of combat operations" is what the forces are ready to implement.

"This means there will be no anti-terror operation planned but that does not mean forces will not retaliate if they are attacked," a government source said.

The four-hour all-party meeting agreed that the Centre should consider a Ramzan ceasefire on the lines of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government move in 2000 to restore confidence of people and provide much-needed relief in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Everybody agreed that we all should appeal to the Centre to consider a ceasefire," said J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
