Refuting allegations over Tripura's Left Front governments involvement in chit fund scam, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Monday said it was his government having first demanded a CBI probe into the scam when the issue first came to light.

"The incident the opposition is talking about is an incident of 2008. At that time I did not know that this organisation was involved in chit fund business and used to defraud the investor. If I had known I would have never attended the programme," Sarkar said in a press statement here.

When the issue of Saradha, Rose Valey and other Ponzy companies defrauding the investors in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal came to light then Tripura's Left Front government was the first which had demanded a CBI probe into the scam, Sarkar claimed. Now the probe is going on in the scam, he added. Sarkar alleged the Opposition was carrying out a malicious and baseless campaign against the left front government with an eye on the autonomous district council polls in the state.
