With BJP almost set to form government in Tripura, there’s a strong buzz that Tripura BJP chief Biplab Kumar Deb is likely to be chosen as the man for top job in the state.

Deb is known to be a an RSS volunteer, who was mentored by none other than KN Govindacharya.

According to latest media reports, Deb was once a trained gym instructor, who came to Delhi for higher education.

Before moving to Tripura in 2016, Deb worked as assistant to Ganesh Singh, who is the BJP’s MP from Satna.

The party sources say that a ground survey gives a clear edge to Deb. It also says that Deb’s no-nonsense image is very popular among people of Tripura.

His wife works a deputy manager at the State Bank of India. They have two children. 

Meanwhile, the BJP’s Parliamentary Board will meet this evening to decide on the future Chief Minister of Tripura, where the party is likely to form a government, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav has said.

"Our Parliamentary Board (the party's highest decision making body) will meet in the evening and take a call," he said at a press conference when asked who will be the BJP chief minister in Tripura.

The BJP and its ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) had surged ahead and established a lead in 39 constituencies, according to Election Commission sources.

The majority mark in the 60 member Assembly was 31.

The BJP Parliamentary Board comprises Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari besides a few others.
