Trinamool Congress panchayat samity member molested by own party's Zilla Parishad member

A Trinamool Congress member of the Kalna I block panchayat samity was allegedly molested by a Burdwan Zilla Parishad member in Ranibandh area of the district today, police said.

District superintendent of police S M H Mirza said, a complaint has been lodged with the Kalna police station by the panchayat samity member against Shanti Chal, a ZP member. "We are investigating the incident," Mirza said.

The panchayat samity member had gone to Ranibandh today to oversee works of rural roads going on in the village along with the local BDO and after the BDO left, she was taking rest in an office room when Chal allegedly barged inside and molested her, police said.

The complaint says, she was injured and her clothes were torn up, they said, adding local residents rushed to the spot after the member raised an alarm. The member later on went to a hospital and underwent treatment, following which she lodged the complaint, police said.

Refusing to comment on the incident, Chal told PTI that the matter would be investigated by the police and the Trinamool Congress leadership would also look into it.

Both Burdwan Zilla Parishad and Kalna I block panchayat samity are being run by the Trinamool Congress.
