Trinamool Congress on Wednesday gave a notice for privilege motion against Finance Minister and Leader of Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, alleging that he had misled the House on CBI investigation into Saradha scam.

In his notice, Trinamool leader Derek O'Brien said Jaitley had told the House on Monday that the "case (of CBI investigation into Saradha scam) is being monitored by Supreme Court. CBI acts independently in the case and reports to the Supreme Court. Government has nothing to do in the matter." Along with this, O'Brien cited Paragraph 39 of the Supreme Court judgement in the case which reads: "We do not for the present consider it necessary to constitute a Monitoring Team to monitor the progress of the investigation into the scam. But, we leave the exercise of that option open for the future."

In view of this, he wrote to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that "we urge you to move a privilege motion against Shri Arun Jaitley under Rule 187 for misleading this august House."
