A high intensity explosion brought down a Trinamool Congress party office in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Monday. The incident happened at 10.30 am at Barrah village of Kankartala area in Birbhum district. Although the single storey concrete structure was completely destroyed, there were no casualties reported.

The intensity of the blast was such that one of the walls fell, the internal concrete staircase which leads to the terrace broke, the fans were deformed, the windows grille got twisted and the iron door which was bolted from outside was blown away to about 100 m from the place.
District Superintendent of police Kunal Agarwal said, “Area locals said that the party office was locked. An investigation is on and it will be some time before we can ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Trinamool strongman and Birbhum party president Anubrata Mondal blamed it on BJP. “BJP goons have come from the adjoininig Jharkhand area and hurled bombs at the party, destroying it,” he said.
BJP state president Dilip Ghosh scoffed at Anubrata’s remarks saying, “He has a creative mind. Has he been smoking dope? Or the district police were high on marijuana that BJP people came in from Jharkhand, hurled bombs and left, without getting noticed? The explosion was caused by bombs which had been stored by their own party members inside the party office. Those were being used in the district during the faction clash,” Ghosh said.
