Gujarat Congress today alleged that the ruling BJP government is depriving the tribal community of the rights conferred upon them by the Constitution.
"In Gujarat, the position of tribal people as regards their education, health, irrigation, employment and land has become very grave," Leader of Opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela said.
"Hundreds of posts of teachers are lying vacant in the tribal schools of the state and the hostel facilities provided to them is poor, due to which education of tribal children is suffering," Vaghela said.
"Health services in tribal areas have totally been non-functional. Tribal children are suffering from anaemia and malnutrition. In 14 districts of Gujarat 6.13 lakh children are suffering from malnutrition, out of this 3,14,880 children are from the tribal-dominated districts," he said.
He also alleged just 22 per cent tribals have been given land rights in Gujarat. "The tribals are being deprived of their rights conferred in the Constitution," he added.
"No new irrigation project has been laid down by this government in the last 12 years," he said.
